The research area ‘Shaping Technological Change’ is dedicated to addressing precisely these challenges: How can technical innovations be harnessed for the benefit of humanity? What are the societal consequences of new technologies, and how can opportunities and risks be balanced?
The humanities and social sciences accompany technological change by exploring its social, cultural and political dimensions. This generates the knowledge needed to shape innovations – from artificial intelligence and digitalisation to forward-looking applications in industry, healthcare and the environment – in a responsible manner, strengthen social acceptance and provide guidance in a rapidly changing world.
Interdisciplinary collaboration, practice-oriented research and international exchange ensure that technological developments are not only feasible but also socially viable and sustainable. In this way, this research area makes a decisive contribution to an innovative, future-proof society.
